The Presentemente of the Jurye for the Burrowghe of Llanellye made the nynthe daye of October anno Regni Jacobi, nunc Regis Anglie etc. septimo et Scotie xliiio, to certayne Artickles given them in chardge by Gerrard Bromley, Esquior, generall Survayor of his Majesties Dutchye of Lancaster for the South Parts.

Imprimis to the firste Artickle the sayd Jurors doe saye and presente that
the quantetye and yearely valwe of all the lands beinge of the Jury are alreadye
entred. And ffurther they saye that they and others, the ffreehoulders of the
aforesayd Bourrowgh, did and doe hould theire lands in ffee symple to them and
to theyre heyres in Soccage Tenure.
Item to the second, thirde and fowrth Artickle they saye they are Ignorant and have nothinge to presente.
Item to the fifte Artickle they saye that the names and surnames of all the ffreehoulders within the sayd Burrowghe of Llanelly to theire knowledge are layed downe in wrightinge in a scedule heare unto annexed, And what Rents are dwe to his Majestie uppon the sayd ffreehoulders in respecte of theire lands and tenure, And they saye and presente that the sayd ffreehoulders and everye of them and all those whose estate they or any of them have hadd or doe hould and have houlden theyre sayd lands, tenements and hereditaments from his Majestie and his Highnes’ Auncestors tyme out of mynde and memorye of man, in ffree Soccage to them, theire heires and assigns as in the right of his Highnes’ sayd Dutchye of Lancaster and Honor of Kydwelly, by painge to his Majestie ffive Pownds, tenn Shillings, fowre pence ob. due and payable at the ffeaste of St Thomas Thappostle, for and in the name of Cheife Rente, dwe unto his Majestie out of the sayd Burrowghe. And the sayd Jurors further saye and presente that the sayd ffreehoulders and everye of them are bounde to doe to his Majestie suite, service as hereafter followeth, viz., Quod faciet sectam curie domini regis de Llanelly predict[e] de mense in mensem. And ffurther they saye that everye ffreehoulder havinge estate of ffee simple within the sayd Burrowghe and dyinge seised and dwellinge there uppon, doe paye the beste beaste that he hath at the tyme of his decease in the name of an Herriotte due to his Majestie in full discharge for all his lands within the sayd Borrowghe. And likewyse the sayd Jurors doe saye and presente that yf any ffreholders doe absolutly without condicion of redemption, alienate and sell all his estate of ffreehoulde within the sayd Borrowghe, he shall paye to his Majestie the beste beaste that he hath at the tyme for and in the name of Alienacion or gwaglawe in full dischardge as aforesayd.
Item to the sixte Artickle the sayd Jurors doe saye that they are ignorante.
Item to the seaventh Artickle the sayd Jurors doe saye that they knowe not what ffynes post or Alyenacion have byne receyved sythence the tyme lymitted in the sayd Artickle but that one Willim Morgan, gent., doth nowe receyve the same, how longe he hath receyved it, neyther to what Somes the same ffynes amounts unto, they knowe not. And further they sayd Jurors doe saye that Sir Thomas Jones, Sir Henry Jones and Sir John Vaughan, knights, have receyved all the ffynes, yssues, and amerciaments whatsoever growinge out of the Courts of the Borrowghe of Llanellye for the space in the Artickle mencioned or theareabowts. And alsoe they saye that one Watter Vaughan, Esquior, and Sir John Vaughan, knight, have receyved all the yssues, ffynes and perquisitts growinge out of from any and everye Sessione and quarter Session within the tyme alsoe mencioned, what rent yssuinge thereof due to his Majestie they knowe not.
Item to the eight Artickle the sayd Jurors doe saye and presente that Sir John Vaughan, knight, houldeth certayne lands of the King’s Majestie within the sayd Borrowghe and hath sett it out to the under tenaunts ffollowinge viz. Nicholas Hunte, Ffrauncis John Gwynn, John David Willim, Wyllim Griffith alias glover, Roger Kyffin, David Lewes, Hugh John David Jeuan, Thomas Humphrey Johnes, John ap John Richard, Roger David, Jeuan Jenkin ap Owen alias gove, Jeuan John ap Jeuan, at what Rent and ffyne they knowe not.
Item to the ixth and xth they saye that they are ignorant and have nothinge to presente touchinge fforrestes and chases and the Fforreste of Glynne mencioned in the sayd Artickle.
Item to the xith Artickle they saye that there is within the Burrowghe or Englishery of Llanelly aforesayd, certaine Marshe grownd over fflowen with the sea uppon many springes and calld by the name of Morva Mawre, contayninge by estymacion [ ] acres or thereabowts extendinge from a brooke called Daven aboute the Marshe called Morva Maes ar Ddaven to a poole by West Ynis Ystu and from thence alongst Daven to Pemrhuwe on the easte, Pwll Kenn Langhwue and Penn yr Irland on the south, Pwll pen Rhes y Blackeland ar Heol vawre on the weste parte, Owens Ditch to Ffymor y herwyn and from thence to Gweddol y Gilvach, from thence to the Haen Dan y Kloddye, from thence to Pwll Penn y Van, from thence alongst Dan Penn y Vann yr Rhyd Ycha whilwgg and from thence alongst whilwgg to Penn Heol y Deosdre on the north within the which all the inhabitants and tenaunts of the sayd Borrowgh or Englishrie tyme owte of mynde have hadd and used to have of right Common for all manner of Beasts without any manner of stint. Alsoe they saye and presente one parcell of pasture called Morva bach contayninge by estymacion [ ] lyinge there betweene Clawdd Parke yr Ythine y Cladd Parke Du on the easte, Llyedy on the south, Holebrooke on the west, Clawdd Parke y Bado and Clawdd Gweyn Whittle on the north, within the which all the inhabitants and tenaunts of the Borrowghe or Englishrye have had and used to have of right. tyme owte of mynd, Common of pasture within the sayd parcell of pasture grownd for all manner of beasts without any manner of stint. Alsoe they saye that there is within the sayd Burrowgh or Englishry one parcell of pasture grownd called and knowen by the name of Gwerne gosoddy contayninge by estymacion [ ] acres or there abowts, lyinge there betweene the Bwysva and Parke yr Ythinne on the easte, yr Heol Vawr and Parke Pilpum on the south, Parke Tir Castell on the west, Y Bres Vawr and the lands of Ffraunces Mores on the north, in the which laste recited grownd the tenaunts and ffreehoulders within the sayd Borrowghe or Englyshry tyme out of mynd have had Common of pasture for all manner of beasts without any manner of stint, and hath byne so used by the tenaunts and ffreehoulders tyme out of mynd. Alsoe they saye that the Commons called y Brine bache hath byne enclosed in and by one Willim Davie, late deceased. What Rente he payd for the same they knowe not, neyther doe they knowe if he payd any, and that the sayd enclosure hath bynne made. Alsoe they saye that the Commons called Kymmyn Bache contayninge by estymacion halfe an acre hath byne enclosed this tenn yeares laste paste by one John Gwynn Jenkine and that he payd yearely of rente for the same xiid. to one Anthony Morgan, gent. Alsoe they saie that there is within the sayd Borrowgh one other parcell of pasture grownd, contayninge by estymacion three rodds or thereabowts lyinge there betweene Weyn hallt on the Easte, Lochor on the south, Klist yr Ydlan on the weste, the lands of John Hunt on the north, commonly called Morva Dee, with the which parcell of pasture grownd all the tenaunts and ffreehoulders, tyme out of mynd, have had and used to have of righte, Common for all manner of beasts without any manner of stint.
Item to the xiiith and xiiith Artickle, they saye that they are ignorant and have nothinge to presente.
Item to the xiiiiih Artickle, they saye that one Owen Jenkine of Llanelly, late deceased, did cause one veyne of Cole ....... in Brynn bache aforesayd to be wrought for, and to the use of one Water Vaughan, Esquior, late deceased, this vaine of Coale hath bynne wrought for the space of halfe a yeare or thereabowts, but what rente the sayd Water payd for the same, they knowe not, neyther doe they knowe the valwe thereof.
Item to the xvth Artickle, they saye that Sir John Vaughan, knight, for the space of [ ] yeares nowe laste paste, have collected and receyved the ffynes, yssues and amerciaments of Courts, which did yerely accrwe and growe to his Majestie out of the premisses. And alsoe Sir Henry Johnes, Knight, for certen yeares before receyved the same, the yerely valwe thereof they knowe not.
Item to the xvith Artickle, they saye that there is one Griste Mille within the Borrowgh called Melyn Llanelly and that Ffrauncis Maunsell, Esquior, is nowe ffarmer of the same and payeth yerely of rent for the same, thirtye three shillings, fowre pence as they hard it reported and that the scowringe of the [ ] of the sayd Mille is uppon the Borrowgh or Englishery of Llanelly aforesayd. And all other service are to be donne uppon the Mannor of Hengoed as they were wonte to doe heretofore. Alsoe they saye and presente that there is one Tucking Mylle within the sayd Burrowgh, fallen to ruyne and decayed of old, rente three shillings, fowre pence. Alsoe they saye and presente that Seabacke, Colebacke and Daley’s Meade are eaten upp with the sand of the Sea within the precincte of the sayd Borrowgh, the yearely Rente xviiid. in auntient tyme.
Item to the xviith Artickle they saye that there is a ffayre kepte within the sayd Burrowgh of Llanelly aforesayd uppon the xixth daye of September by the ffarmors of Bach Ynis and nowe by Harry Bowen, ffarmor of the same, as he alleageth, the proffitts thereof is by hym collected. And alsoe they saye that there is a Markett weekly uppon everye Thursdaye within the sayd Burrowgh of LIanelly yearely kepte by the sayd Harry Bowen, and the proffitts thereof he receyveth, but by what right or aucthoritye they knowe not, neyther doe they knowe the yearely valwe thereof.
Item to the xviiith Artickle, they saye that Henry, Earle of Northumberland is personne of Llanellye together with the Chapples there unto annexed and that one, Sir Rees Lloyd, is viccar of the same.
Item to the xixth and xxth Artickle they saie that they are ignorant and have nothinge to presente.

Imprimis to the firste Artickle the sayd Jurors saye and presente that the
quantitye and yearely valwe of all theire lands beinge of the Jurors have alreddy
entred. And further they saye that they and others, the ffrehoulders of the
foresayd Commotte, did and doe hould their lands fee symple to them and theire
heyres for ever in Soccage Tenure.
Item to the second Artickle the sayd Jurors doe presente & saye that the boundaryes, lymitts and meare stones of the sayd Commotte of Carnowllan lye scituat as followeth, viz., beginneth at the entrance of a river called Dulais into another ryver called Loughor, And soe boundeth from that place uppon the parishes of Penbrey and Llangandern as farr as the Bridge called Pont y Beran, And soe forwards by the syde of a ryver called Gwendrath Vaior as the current rann heretofore to Blaen Hirwen, And soe from a place called Llidad Hirwen all along Mynid Mavior as farr as Llech y [ ]ffin, And therehence to a place called Come y Rhos dy, And soe to a ryver called Come Gwyli meetinge with a certaine Brooke called Nant Kylvach y Mynidd and soe to Rhyd y Karr, and soe therehence to a Brooke called fferrus leadinge directlye to a ryver called Laughor, And soe the sayd Ryver Laughor boundes in the Auntient current tyll it meeteth the river called Duleis aforesaid.
Item to the third and fourth Artickles the sayd Jurors doe saye that they are ignorante what Castells or Mansion Howses his Majestie hath within the sayd Commotte etc. neyther doe they knowe of any demeasne lands his Majestie hath within the sayd Commotte.
Item to the ffyfte Artickle the sayd Jurors saye that they doe presente in a scedulle hereunto annexed the names and surnames of all the ffreehoulders within the Welshry of the sayd Commotte to theire knowledge and what Rente, Commorth and Keade are dwe to his Majestie uppon the sayd ffreehoulders in respecte of theire lands and tenure, And Kysed and Bourows dwe as well uppon the resyants as tennaunts and ffrehoulders, and the sayd Jurors alsoe saye and presente that the sayd ffreehoulders and everye of them and all those whose estates they or any of them have or had doe hould and have houlden theire sayd lands, tenements & hereditaments from his Majestie and his Highnes auncestors tyme owte of mynd and memorye of man in free Soccage to them and theire heires and assignes as in the righte sayd dutchye of Lancaster and Honor of Kydwellye by payinge to his Majestie the severall somes of moneys particularly specified in the scedulles hereunto annexed for and in the name of Cheife rente, Keade, Commorth, Kysead and Bourows dwe and payable to his Majestie at the severall tymes in the sayd scedulles mentioned. And further the sayd Jurors doe saye and present that the sayd ffreehoulders within the sayd commotte doe owe theire suite and service at two Leete Courts to be houlden for his Majestie within the sayd Commotte before the steward of the Lordship of Kydwelly for the tyme beinge yearely at Maii and Michaelmas and to the Lords Courte held from monthe to monthe before the sayd Steward. And the sayd ffreehoulders doe owe theire suite and service to his Majestis Milles in theire severall Mannors viz., All the Inhabitants of the parishe of Llanneddy together with the Inhabitants of the parish of Llangennech on the easte syde of a brooke called Morleis doe owe theire suite and service to one gryste myll newly erected uppon the fforeste of Keven Gorath. The Inhabitants of the parishe of Llannon and as many of the Inhabitants of the parishe of Llanelly as are within the Mannor of Llannon doe owe theire suite and service to Morleis Mylle. The inhabitants of the parishe of Llangenneche westeward the brooke Morleis owe theire suite and service to Llangenneches myll, the Inhabitants of Burwicke and Westva doe owe theire suite and service to Melyn Voyel. And the sayd Jurors doe farther presente that there is tenn shillings dwe to his Majestie uppon the deathe of everye ffreehoulder in the name of an Heriotte in full dischardge of all his lands in the Welshrie of the three Commotts of Kydwelly aforesayd. And tenn shillings dwe to his Majestie uppon the firste bestowinge of every ffreehoulders daughter in maryadge for and in the name of Leatherwitts in full dischardge of all his lands in the Welshrye of the three Commotts aforesayd. And tenn shillings dwe to his Maiestie for and in the name of gwaglaw when any ffreehoulder doe sell or allyenate absolutely all his ffreehould without condition of redemption.
Item to the sixte Artickle the sayd Jurors doe saye that they are Ignorant of any Copyehouldes within the sayd commotte.
Item to the seaventh the sayd Jurors doe saye and presente that they knowe not what ffynes poste mortem or alyenatyon have bynn receaved sythence the tyme lymitted in the sayd Artickle but that one Willyam Morgan, gent. doth nowe receave the same, howe longe he hath receaved the same neyther to what somes the same fynes amounteth unto they knowe not. And further the sayd Jurors doe saye that Sir Thomas Jones, Sir Henry Jones and Sir John Vaughan, knights, have receaved all the ffynes, yssues and amerciaments whatsoevere growinge out of the commotte courte of Carnowllan for the space in the Artickle mencioned or theare abowts. And alsoe the[y] saye that one Water Vaughan, Esquior and Sir John Vaughan, knight, have receaved all the yssues, ffynes and perquisitts growinge out or from any and everye Session and Quarter Session within the tyme aforemencioned, what rent yssuinge thereof dwe to his Majestie they knowe not.
Item to the eighte Artickle the sayd Jurors doe saye that Sir John Vaughan, knight, houldeth certayne lands of the Kings Majestie within the said Commotte and hath sett it owte to under tenaunts followinge and as for theire rents and fynes, itt shall to our knowledge appeare at theire names viz., David Wylliams holdeth certayne of the sayd lands at the yearly rente of two shillings without any fyne; Mathwe Wyllyams houldeth certayne of the sayd lands payinge yearely eleaven shillings sixe pence together with xxvis. viiid. for fyne; Jevan John ap Jeuan houldeth certayne of the sayd lands att what rente and fyne they knowe not. Issabell Gryffyth houldeth parte of the sayd lands at what rente and fyne they knowe not. Rees ap Owen houldeth certaine of the sayd lands at what rente and fyne they knowe not; John Howell houldeth certayne of the sayd lands payinge seaven shillings yearely of rente but what fyne they knowe not; Morris John Howell houldeth certayne of the sayd lands att the yearely rente of eighte shillings tenn pence, fyne ffortye sixe shillings eight pence, by his owne reporte; Thomas Rees houldeth certaine of the sayd lands, rente yearely sixe shillings but what fyne they knowe not.
Item to the nynth Artickle they saye that there are two fforests within the parishe of Llaneddy viz., the fforrests Kevengorath contayninge by estimacion thirtye acres bounded by a river called Come Wyli on the weste parte, the lands of Thomas David Probert, David Willyams and Thomas Lloyd on the north parte, the lands of Sir Arther Chichester, knight, Rees Lloyd and Harry Fflemynge on the easte parte, the lands of David ap Jeuan together with the late lands of Eignon John Gitto on the south parte, Rent thirtye shillings yearely payable by the tenaunts nexte adioyninge. The other fforeste called and knowne by the name of fforeste Kelly visach, contayninge by estimacion fowre acres, bounded as followeth: the lands of John ap Jeuan Wallter and the river called Loughor on the easte parte, the lands of Morgan Willyam on the south parte, the lands of Rees Jeuan Thomas and Morgan Willyam on the weste parte and the lands of the aforesayd John ap Jeuan Wallter and Rees Powell Jenkine on ye north parte, Rente sixe shillings eight pence yearely, payable by the tenaunts nexte adioyninge. In the which two forrests all the tenaunts and inhabitants nexte thereunto adioyninge have had tyme owte of mynde Common of pasture for all mannor of beasts and cattell sance number att all tymes and seasons of the yeare, payinge the foresayd rente yearely which sayd rente is yearely payd to one Lewis Bayliffe, clerke, accordinge to a lease which he houldeth from his Majestie. As for any other forreste or forrests, parke or chases they are ignorant.
Item to the xth Artickle they saye that they are ignorante of any forrests within the foresayd Commotte mencioned in the sayd Artickle savinge that the place called Glynystun alias Glynystyn lyeth in the parishes of Llanelly and Llannon from the brooke Carwly unto Mynidd Mawre alongst the easte syde of the river called Gwendrath Vawr.
Item to the xith the sayd Jurors doe saye and presente that there is parte of the Commons called Mynidd Mawre within the sayd commotte and that the inhabitants of the sayd Comotte have had Common of pasture for all mannor of beasts and cattell sance number tyme owte of mynd att all tymes and seasons of the yeare in the sayd Commons. And further the sayd Jurors doe presente a Common called Mynidd fforrus within the parishe of Llaneddy as farr fowrth as the same hath bynn heretofore presented by former presentments wherein the inhabitants of the Mannor of Llaneddy have had Common of pasture for all mannor of beasts and cattell sance number tyme owte of mynde. And likewyse the sayd Jurors doe saye and presente one Mountayne called Mynidd Bache lyinge within the parish of Ilane[ ] wherein the Inhabitants nexte adioyninge have-had Common of pasture for all manner of beasts and cattell sance number att all tymes and seasons in the yeare tyme owte of mynd and that abouts viiite yeres nowe laste paste one Howell ap Jeuan David and one Griffith John have enclosed owt of the sayd mountayne one close contayninge by estymacion one Englyshe acre valwing per annum xiid. And alsoe one Rees Thomas Howell hath not only erected one cottage in and uppon some parte of the sayd mountayne but alsoe hath enclosed some parte of the sayd mountayne contayninge by estymacion two Englyshe acres valwinge per annum iis. And further the sayd Jurors doe saye and presente one mountayne called Mynidd Sylen within the parish of Llanellye to be Commons as farr fowrth as the same hath byne heretofore presented by former presentments wherein the inhabitants of Hengoed Westva and some parte of Llannon have had common of pasture for all manner of beasts and cattell sance number tyme owt of mynde at all seasons of the yeare. As for the boundarys thereof they doe not knowe. And likewyse the sayd Jurors doe saye and presente that the Mountayne called Mynydd Carnalltharn lyinge within the parishe of LIanelly is Commons as farr fowrth as the same hath byn heretofore presented by former presentments. Wherein the inhabitants of the mannor of Hengoed have hadd Common of pasture for all manner of beasts and cattell sance number tyme owt of mynd att all seasons of the yeare and as for the quantitye and boundaryes of the same they doe not certaynely knowe. Alsoe they doe presente divers parcells of the Marshe grownd within the parish of Llanellye extendinge from Penkoed to a brooke called Daven wherein the inhabitants of the Mannor of Burwicke have had Common of pasture for all manner of beasts and cattell sance number tyme out of mynd to be Commons.
Item to the xiith Artickle they saye and presente that one Thomas John Dd ap Rees hath byne convicted of manslaughter abowts three yeares laste paste for killinge of one Thomas ap Owen and that his lands to theire estymacion was worth per annum fowre pownds and that parte of the same was in his possession at the time of the facte commytted and the other parte mortgaged unto one Jenkin Hughes and Willim David, clerke, viccar of Carmarthen, and that hee then was of the age of xviiten yeares or theare abowts.
Item to the xiiith they are altogether ignorant of any woods that his Majestie hath within the sayd Commotte.
Item to the xiiiith they saye that one Thomas Lloyd of Llangennech, gentleman, hath and doth worke Coleworkes at a place called Allt Llangennech, what quantitye or to what valwe it surmounteth the[y] knowe not. And likewyse they saye and presente that one David Vaughan, gentleman, hath wrought Coles at or neere a place called Llwyn hendu but what the quantitye and yearely valwe thereof is they knowe not. And likewyse the sayd David Vaughan, gent. hath and doth worke Coles at a place called Gwern Gradog, what quantitye they knowe not, neyther doe they knowe yearely valwe thereof.
Item to the xvth Artickle they saye that they have aunswered the same fullye in the viith artickle.
Item to the xvith Artickle they saye and presente that theare is within the parishe of Llaneddy one gryste myll nwly (sic) and lately erected uppon the fforreste called Kevengorath in steede of an ould Auntyent myll called Melyn tal y klyn, houlden by one Lewis Baylyffe, Clearke, Rent dwe to his Majestie for the same tenn shillings yearely. They likewyse presente one other griste mill within the parish of Llannon called by the name of Melyn Vorleis, what rente to his Majestie they knowe not. But that one Ffrauncis Maunsell, Esquior, doth possesse the lease thereof and alsoe that the sayd mylle is in sufficient reparacions but as concerninge the valwation theye knowe not. Alsoe they presente one gryste myll within the parish of Llangennech called by the name of Melin LIangennech being in reparacion houlden in farme by Griffith Penry, gent. att what rente or to what valwe they knowe not. And lykewyse they presente one gryste myll within the parishe of Llanellye called by the name of Melyn Voyell of which myll the foresayd Ffrauncis Maunsell is ffarmor, what yearely rent or valwe they knowe not.
Item to the xviith Artickle they saye and present that theare are within the sayd Commotte twoe severall ffaires helde yearelv viz., the ffaire of Llangennech and the ffayre of Llaneddy theire yearely valwe they knowe not but that one Wyllyam Morgan, gent, receaveth the comodytyes thereof.
Item to the xviiiten Artickle they saye and presente that the foresayd Lewis Bayliffe is persone of Llaneddy aforesayd. Alsoe they saye that Henry, Earle of Northumberland, is personne of Llanellye together with the Chappelle thereunto annexed and that one Sir Rees Lloyd, Clearke, is Viccar of the same.
Item to the xixth they are ignorante touchinge any Wrackes within the sayd Commotte.
Item to the xxth Artickle they saye that one Sir Thomas Maunsell, knight, houldeth one tenement of the lands, called Sir Johns Lands, and that one Thomas Griffith houldeth another tenement of the sayd lands and that Stephen ap Owen and Luce Powell houldeth the other tenement of the sayd lands together with a Chappell called St. Johns Chappell.

Imprimis to the firste Artickle wee saye and presente that all the tenaunts of the sayd Commote ever held and at this presente doe hould in severaltye to them and theyre severall heyres all theire severall and particular messuages, tenements and lands within the sayd Commotte of his Majestie as of the Honor of Kydwellye, parcell of his Highnes Dutchye of Lancaster in free Soccage painge of Cheife Rentes two pence for the accer called Erw Howell Alia· (sic), sometymes Prince of South Wales, which acre did and doth conteyne In it of errable land sixteene dayes Earinge or eight Englyshe acres and of other lands whatsoever fowre and twentye Kevers or twelfe Englyshe acres and are and stand thereof of such an estate seised accordingly. And as to sett downe trulye and particularly uppon our oathes the quantitye, qualitye and yearely valwe of every tenement through the whole Commotte wee are not able to performe suche service in a longe tyme, and without wee had speciall warrant to putt everye tenaunte to deliver the truth in that behalfe by oathe.

Item to the fourth Artickle wee saye that as neare as wee coulde wee have in a scedule hereunto annexed sett downe the names of all the tenaunts and ffreehoulders within the sayd Commotte. And doe presente that all the sayd tenaunts doe severally houlde the severall and particular messuages, tenements and lands at .theire severall names particularly appearinge and all other there and either of theire severall lands within the sayd Commotte of his Majestie in forme aforesayd by ffealtye and for the Cheife rents at theire sayd names particularly layd downe in the sayd scedule payable yearely to his Majestie ad terminos usuales. Wee further presente that everye tenaunte beinge a ffreehoulder within the sayd Commote doth owe sutte and service and ought to yeld attendance att everye Leete Courte and uppon reasonable sommons att all other courtes de mense in mensem to be kepte for the sayd Commotte. And that uppon the firste bestowinge out in maradge of every daughter of any suche tenaunte in the lyfe tyme of the same tenaunte there is dwe unto his Majestie out of the tenaunts and lands whatsoever within the Lordship of Kydwely one tenn shillings in the name of Letherwitche. Item to the sixte Artickle wee answere that the sayd Letherwitche, Heriotts poste mortem and ffynes for Alyenacions orherwyse called Gwaglaw weare payd to Water Vaughan Esquior in his lyfe tyme and after hym for a tyme to Sir John Vaughan, Knight, and afterwards to Ffrauncis Lloyd, Esquior, and theire several officers as his Majestis ffarmors, and laste of all to Willim Morgan of Greenecastle, gent. whoe it receaveth them. But what the same amounte unto for theise twenty yeares laste paste wee knowe not but referr to the records of the Baron Courts of the sayd Commotte where the same are wonte to be dwely presented.
Item to the viith Artickle wee are alsoe ignorante.
Item to the viiith ixth and xth Artickle wee saye that wee knowe not any fforests Chaces nor parkes belonging to his Majestie within our lymitts.
Item to the xith Artickle wee presente and saye that certaine parcells of land called Hendrevyd and [ ] contayninge by estimacion abouts [ ] acres lyinge within the parishe of Llandebie weare hearetofore found for incrochments made of the Common called Mynith Mawr which wee also fynde for incrochment and to be nowe in the possession of Phillip Vaughan, gent.
Item to the xiith and xiiith Artickle wee have nothinge to presente.
Item to the xiiiith Artickle wee saye that there are coales founde wrought and digged in the sayd common called Mynith Mawre the use whereof the sayd tenaunts of the sayd Commotte and theare auncestors and those whose estate they severally have in and to theare sayd severall tenements by themselves and theare under tenaunts have severallye and respectively hadd for all the tyme whereof the memory of man ys not to the contrary for necessary ffyre and burninge of lyme as parte of theire freehould and appurtenaunte to their sayd severall tenements. And wee knowe noe quarreys or mynes that his Majestie hath within the sayd Commotte.
Item to the xvth Artickle wee saye that Sir Thomas Johnes, Sir Harry Johnes and Sir John Vaughan, knights, one after an other by themselves and theire severall officers have collected and receaved the yssues and amerciaments whatsoever growinge out of the Courts of Iskennen aforesayd for theise xxtie yeares laste paste. And that Water Vaughan Esquior and after hym Sir John Vaughan, knight, have had and receaved all the yssues, fynes and profittes yearely growing within the sayd Commotte out of every greate Sessions and generall Sessions of the peace holden for the Countye of Carmarthen within the tyme above mencioned. And that the same amounteth unto by the yeare to twentye nobles or theareabowts.
Item to the xvith Artickle wee saye that the sayd commotte of Iskennen ys bounded as followeth, viz., it begynneth neere a place called Chappell Dewi in the weste parte thereof and from thence is whollye bounde with the ryver of Towy in the auntient current on the north syde to a brooke called Breynant in the easte parte and is meared from the Lordship of Perveth on the easte parte by the sayd brooke called Breynant and from thence the meare runeth directely to a place called Gweyn Helgwn and soe to a brooke called Camnant and by the same to Kennen and thence to ffynant and soe to a place called Blaen Gwythwych and from thence to Speddul, a brooke runnynge into Amon, a ryver and by the same to a brooke called Garnant and soe to a place called Corse Visagh and thence it hath the lordship of Gowre whollye on the south parte and is meared from the same to a brooke called Nant y Gevile and thence the meare goeth by a place called Lletty Crydd directly to a place called Ller Castell and thence to a brooke called Cathan and by the same to the fall thereof into the ryver of Amon att the entrance of the same into the Ryver of Lochor which meareth the sayd Commotte from the parish of Llaneddye on the weste parte thereof as farr as a brooke called fferws and from fferrws the meare runeth directly to a place called Rhyd y kar and soe by a brooke called Nant Kilvagh y Mynith by the river of Comwili and by the same till it runeth all alonge a mountayne to a place called Llech y Tair ffin and thence it turneth directly westward to Gwendraeth Vawre and by the same to a place
called Pont y beran and thence it turneth northward to a place called Pont Kitaych* and soe againe from thence to Cappell Dewi untill it meeteth with Towy.
Item to all the reste of the last Artickles wee have nothinge to present but that wee have within the sayd Commote two ffaires, the one called ffair Maes Aberkennen theare kept uppon the iith dayc of November yearely the towle and proffitts of the same Sir John Vaughan, knighte, doth receave, And thother kepte at Llandebie on Wensdaye on Whitsound weeke yearely the towle and profitt whereof we thinke to be worth aboute twoe shillings by the yeare which Phillipe Vaughan, gent., yearely receaveth, the towle and proffitte of the ffaire of Maes Aberkennen aforesayd wee thinke to be worthe a noble every ffaire.
Item to the xviiiten Artickle wee doe presente that Griffith John Harry of Llanvihangell Aberbythich in the said Commotte aboute the second daye of Maye laste paste did in Llanvihangell aforesayd hange hymselfe. And farther wee doe presente that one David John Thomas of Llanvihangell aforesayd hath and doth nowe at this presente occupye and enioye one messuage or tenement of lands which sometymes heretofore was the lands of the sayd Gryffith John Harry.
Item to the xixten Artickle wee doe presente that Jeuan Morgan John Lloyd of Llandilo Iskennen abowte sixe yeares nowe laste paste was endited of Burglary and fled awaye from the countrye and was therefore owtlawed, And that the said Jeuan Morgan John Lloyd hadd twoe tenements of lands lyinge within the parishe of Llandilo Iskennen and that one Gwalter John Dyan now houldeth one of the sayd tenements, And that the sayd Jeuan Morgan did then occupye the other tenements hymselfe the which is nowe in the tenure and occupation of Gryffith John Gryffith and Morgan Retherich.
Item to the xxth Artickle we doe presente that Mynid Kevor hath byne a Common tyme out of mynd and David Vaughan being under steward of Kydwelly aboute ffyftye and twoe yeares nowe laste paste raised xiiis. ivd. of rente uppon his tenaunts havinge then lands adioyninge to the sayd Common called Mynid Kevorr which the sayd David Vaughan bought of the heyres of the Donnes, And that the neighbours adioyninge to the sayd Comon hadd free graysinge and depasturinge uppon the same until the sayd David Vaughan raysed the rents aforesayd, And that the sayd Common was incroched by Sir John Vaughan, knight, abowte tenn yeares laste paste, And further that the sayd Common is nowe in the tenure and occupacion of John Thomas Willim. The examynacions of Jeuan David Gytto of Llanarthney, David John Lewis de eadem, Stephen Wyllyam de eadem, Morgan David Dyo of Llantharog sworne and examyned concerning Mynith Kyvorth taken at the Close in Iskennen before Gerrard Bromeley, Esquior, Sir John Points, knight, and Phillipp Vaughan, gent. in the presence and hearinge of the moste parte of the Jurye whose names are subscrybed to this presentment the xxiiith of Auguste, 1609, and endorsed on the backe of the sayd presentmente which sayd witnesses sayd uppon theyre oathes, viz., Jeuan David Gytto aforesayd of the age of lxxx yeares or theareabowts sayth that he knewe Mynith Kyvor to have byne a common tyme owte of mynd, But some lii yeares paste or theareabowts David Vaughan then under st[e]ward of Kydwelly raysed a rente uppon certayne of his tenaunts in Llantharoge and Llanarthney before which tyme theare was never any rente payd for the same. The Donnes havinge diverse tenements adioyninge David Vaughan boughte the Donnes Lands and then claymed that Mynith Kyvor belonginge to those tenements, And that one greate parcell of that Mountayne inclosed within the Commotte of Iskennen is nowe in the occupacion of John Thomas Wyllyam ffyrste enclosed by Sir John Vaughan, knight, within the space of ix or x years paste or theareabowts.
David John Lewis, Stephen Wyllyam and Morgan David Dyo they and everye of them sayeth that they knewe the same to be a Common And that David Vaughan raysed fyrste a rente of xiiis. iiiid. uppon his tenaunts as aforesayd some 1 yeares paste or theare abowts And that the foresayd parcell hath byne inclosed by Sir John Vaughan, Kt., some ix or x yeares paste or theareabowts And that the sayd John Thomas Wyllyam doeth occupye the same.
